Shannon Williams

Making pots, cooking and gardening are three passions of mine.  When I am participating in one of the activities, I am usually thinking about one of the others.  In m mind, all three are naturally related.  “What shape of vase might best hold this bouquet of flowers?” or “Might this poached fish look better on a square platter?”

It is very important to me that my pots are not only pleasing to the eye but also satisfy utilitarian needs.  I usually think about the eventual use of the pot before I think about how the pot should be finished.

In our culture, where plastic is often the material of choice for producing utilitarian objects, handmade ceramic vessels embody aesthetic power.  I feel my role as a potter is to design and construct vessels that celebrate daily living by making the ordinary extraordinary.
