These pieces are all from the past year or so. During this time, I moved from Montana after spending two wonderful winters at the Artists Refuge in Basin, back to my hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska. There is something about the frantic and fast Alaskan summer that has influenced both the creation and content of the work. My time has been compressed and all rules were off in making the pieces at Artworks Gallery. They are worked from all sorts of sources and in many different ways and I have discovered some new things in the process. My landscape is becoming somewhat more specific and peopled (at least by animals, a start.) but I still hope to maintain the feeling of somewhat fantastic and imagined world. Color, strange shapes, movement, and the amazing detail of the natural world are the things that hold my attention and come out in these pieces. |
